5. Development of new technologies

We have contributed to develop new culture methods on pluripotent stem cells (Examples: Hayashi et al., Stem Cells 2007; Hayashi et al., Plos One 2010).

We are now collaborating with other experts to develop the new technologies on cell culture, handling, and analysis.

Examples

5-1. Automated adherent cell elimination by a high-speed laser mediated by a light-responsive polymer

We have developed a Laser-induced, Light-responsive-polymer-Activated, Cell Killing (LiLACK) system that enables high-speed and on-demand adherent cell sectioning and purification. Using this system combined with deep machine-learning analysis on fluorescent and phase contrast images, a label-free and automatic cell processing system has been developed by eliminating unwanted spontaneously differentiated cells in undifferentiated hiPSC culture conditions.
